It might come as no surprise that one of the main causes of stress in a young person’s life is school and/or their formal education. In fact, I’d even venture to say that the majority of parents take the above quote to heart.
From a parent’s standpoint, they can do no wrong if it means their child can come out on top as a successful, well-educated, contributing person of society. We’ve all been teenagers and know the struggle of assessing how seriously to take our education.
By all means, it is in no way true that every teenager and young adult require the same education for their desired career path. But, this has little impact on the psyche of a parent who only wants the best for their child.
As a result, we see every generation of young people resenting the K-12 education system. Even if someone excels, they experience the same pressure that radiates from the expectations of their parents. The American Psychological Association reports “teens report that their stress level during the school year far exceeds what they believe to be healthy (5.8 versus 3.9 on a 10-point scale) and tops adults’ average reported stress levels (5.8 for teens versus 5.1 for adults).”
There exists a good amount of young people in every generation that
question the necessity of their education. They receive peer pressure from others with the same doubts. Even those who embrace their education are no strangers to these pressures.
“Peer pressure is something everyone will face in school. You have to really go by what you think is the right thing to do. Turn to the friends you trust the most when you are put in a compromising situation. If your friends are making the wrong decision, then turn to your parents.”
As such, if a parent exudes a different type of pressure, one that stems from high standards, then iit can be quite the difficult situation for a young person who does not know how to handle the stress properly. Now, it is precisely that problem which Be Iconic Entertainment aims to address.
School acts as a focal point of a large amount of stress in a young person’s life. Often times there is no one to turn to without receiving a different type of pressure or form of stress. We seek to address that problem by offering a source of outside help, free from the stress of day-to- day interactions. In fact, our primary goal is to instill young people with the necessary tools that will help them appropriately deal with that stress.
Every now and then young people will experience the pangs of education and all that it entails.
When that time comes, it is our hope that the help and teachings from Be Iconic Entertainment
seminars will be there to aid them.
Trust and communication are crucial to any working personal relationship. Often times teenagers become estranged from their parents because one or both of these factors have been strained or lost. As a child becomes older, they naturally become more independent and seek privacy. This can hinder trust and communication between parents and child. Parents will always want to have some input or give some advice about their child’s life and young people are always going to need advice. In an ideal world, the dynamic would work out perfectly, but unfortunately, we don’t live in that world. So, parents ought to take the position of the distant guardian in order to remedy the situation.
"Teens are going through a very stressful time in their lives: They want to please us, but they also want to break away." - Michele Borba, educational psychologist
"Parents have a hard time making the transition from the preteen years, where it has been more helpful to be hands-on, toward increasing autonomy and stepping back," - Dan Griffin, a clinical psychologist specializing in adolescents and family therapy.
So, one of the options open to parents who want to guide their children, but also realize that they need space to grow on their own, are seminars designed to motivate, educate, and empower young people outside of the home. Be Iconic acts as a viable option for them to experience such seminars. Not only that but if young people need someone else to talk to about their problems (besides their parents), then Be Iconic can be the person/institution that will lend them a listening ear. Even if the topic being discussed is how to appropriately express yourself, Be Iconic can help paint a clearer picture. Through insightful and professional public speakers, these seminars will give young people the confidence they need to take their first steps into adulthood.
Parents often want to be the pillar that raises their child, but we all know that that can be a lot of pressure. Of course, there is a duty to raise your kids but there is an even bigger duty to do it properly. It’s always a healthy option to seek outside help when you need to and Be Iconic is here for that reason.
